Hobicore: A New Colorful-&-Happy Fashion Trend

What is Hobicore? It’s an aesthetic that originated from combining J-Hope’s from BTS style and his sense of humor. It consists of wearing colorful outfits, accessories such as beads bracelets and necklaces, goofy rings, things with flowers, smiley faces, rainbows, and even painted shoes. It might seem childish but it’s fresh and fun.

Anyone can pull this cheerful trend, it’s pretty easy, and the best part is that you can exploit your creativity in the process.

This aesthetic kinda resembles the 80s fashion mixed with Harajuku, and Kandi, just add big shoes, more color, happy vibes, and plushies. The idea is to express J-Hope’s charisma and energy: happiness, good vibes, and of course, hope.

This trend started in social media not long after J-Hope released his solo album ‘Hope World’ which has a very groovy cover. In the music video of ‘Daydream’ he showed a very aesthetically pleasing concept that everyone loved. Soon, people started to paint their jackets, their shoes, their jeans… you name it!

I was so impressed by it that I had to try! Normally, I would dress all-black, but with the arrival of this new aesthetic I’ve learned to try new things out, get out of my comfort zone, and dress like a rainbow!

What’s interesting is that you don’t need anything expensive, you can make your own accessories, paint your jeans, decorate your shoes, or just edit your pictures with extra cute stickers, with that you’ll be following the trend.

Most of the outfits consists of baggy pants, big shoes, and colorful shirts, but of course, this can vary.

Let’s not forget the 90s-so-famous hairclips and the eccentric makeup!

Another key element is including the famous Takashi Murakami flower. The smiley and colorful flower gained popularity when J-Hope showed up at the airport with the flower as a keychain. This flower is a representation of what J-Hope is: a happy, full of life guy who always has a contagious smile on his face.

The best part is you don’t have to match, you can just mix! Wear red pants with a yellow T-Shirt and colorful shoes and own it. Wear some jeans with a colorful shirt, throw in some bright accessories and embrace the aesthetic.

An innovation that I will totally try is adding colorful beads to your shoelaces. I was bamboozled when I saw people doing this because it looked so great and yet it was so simple, I never thought of doing that. It definitely brings attention to one of the most important part of an outfit: the shoes.

Another form of adopting this trend is by painting your nails in different colors and adding cute symbols. When J-Hope released his single ‘Chicken Noodle Soup’, he broke the internet with his nail art, stating that he doesn’t care about gender stereotypes. He painted his nails again for the release of ‘EGO’, where he had a smiley face and the word EGO spelled on each nail.

In short, Hobicore is just a way of expression: of art, of happiness, of fashion, of HOPE. It’s just screaming at the world, LOOK AT ME, THIS IS WHO I AM, THIS IS MY JOY! Of course, I encourage you to try it and have fun with it, and if you have any doubts, you can always write to the team.
