THE WEEKEND IS AROUND THE CORNER AND, I AM NOT NECESSARILY FEELING ANY DIFFERENT THAN MY REGULAR WEEKENDS WHERE I MOSTLY WORK. YET, THIS WEEKEND IS STRANGE, THE COMPANY THAT I WORK FOR TOOK PREVENTATIVE MEASUREMENTS TO KEEP THEIR EMPLOYEES AND CLIENTS HEALTHY THROUGH THIS MOMENT OF COVID-19. I HAVE NOT SPENT SO MUCH TIME AT HOME FOR SUCH A LONG TIME. ON THAT NOTE, I AM GOING TO SHARE HOW I PAIR MY SNACKS WITH MY FAVORITE SERIES.
I am a big fan of series with historical facts or close to it, shows based on an era or, those that I can relate because of their awkward humor sense. I am also a vegetarian and, some of my favorite snacks are borderline vegan too. Sorry, not sorry I do not consume meat but, you can always add some as you please. Parental alert some of the following series listed below have adult language and scenes!
Avenue 5 (HBO) paired with Lesser Evil’s Organic Popcorn with Himalayan Pink Salt.
Via HBO Via Lesser Evil
Avenue 5 is a SciFi comedy television on HBO created by Armando Lanucci first aired in January 2020. Each episode comes once a week on Wednesdays but, if you have not watched it yet, you can catch up during these quarantine days. It is a futuristic setting in space of a vessel that suffers from a system malfunction changing and delaying the return of the people on board to three years until their return to Earth. They face challenges relating to survival and maintaining the order in the vessel. Fun, right? Popcorn goes great with this show since it is a light snack but mighty in flavor. You know how popcorn gets stuck in your teeth and throat but you cannot get enough? That is the same feeling Avenue 5 is going to leave you with!
Babylon Berlin (Netflix) paired with Snack Factory’s Pretzel Crisps.
Via Netflix Via Snack Factory
Babylon Berlin sets in 1929 during the Weimar Republic Era in Berlin, Germany. The main two characters of this series are Charlotte Ritter, who is aspiring to become a police inspector, works as a police clerk by day and a flapper by night and, Gereon Rath, who has been assign from Cologne to Berlin on a secret mission. Gereon also suffers from PTSD from the war, upbringing mental health problems and, solutions. This show also reveals some woman empowerment with the development of Charlotte throughout the series. Pretzels are a traditional pastry from Berlin and nowadays, we can find different variations of it. That is completely comparable with the variety of troubles these two protagonists find themselves in. Pretty salty situations!
To make your Pretzel Crisps more fulfilling, I recommend you to dip it in peanut butter, caramel, hummus or, cream cheese and shredded chicken dip.
Peaky Blinders (Netflix) paired with Beyond Sausage sauteed with baby portabella mushrooms and toast.
Via Netflix Via Beyond Sausage
The Peaky Blinders is my favorite series also, celebrated by David Beckham. This series takes set in 1919 (after WWI) in Birmingham, England. The story centers on the business about a family of gangsters taking over horse gambles, cities and, more. There are several moments where the show focuses on women’s development with and without the family business, passionate love and, hard decisions. It is a drama series so, prepare yourself to have a blast of emotions. Wondering why I picked this particular snack to pair with it? Simple! A classic English show should be somewhat paired with classic English breakfast ingridients but, make it vegetarian (wink, wink).
How to prepare your sauteed sausage and baby portabella mushrooms:
- Cut both, mushrooms and sausage in bite sizes
- Prepare a medium pan with a small amount of olive oil. Once the pan is hot and ready, you can add the sausage to cook. Feel free to add yellow onion and, garlic can be added for flavoring.
- Once the sausage is ready, you can add the mushrooms and cook them until they look juicy and yummy.
- Add salt and pepper, stir and remove from heat
- Toast as many slices of bread you can eat.
Black Jesus (Hulu) paired with Sensible Portion’s Garden Veggie Straws.
Via Hulu Via Sensible Portions
Black Jesus is a live-action comedy set in modern-day Compton, California. Jesus goes on a quest to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood, followed by his small group of followers. This series also depicts how growing cannabis and consuming it is the prudishness of god’s love. Even though, at some point through the series, people are questioning if Jesus is really who he says he is or if it is an act created by a looney. What could be the gift of God on earth to humans? The Full Garden of Eden and for that, you should always eat your veggies at least, on a chip form.
Trailer Park Boys (Netflix) paired with Poutine.
Via Netflix Via Food 52
Trailer Park Boys is probably the funniest show you would ever watch. I remember when I traveled to Canada, I wanted to visit Novia Scotia just because of this series. This Canadian mockumentary is all about how the characters get themselves in trouble doing petty theft, trying to get rich quickly with schemes, and, screwing up ending up in jail most of the time. Pretty much all of their adventures are about making enough money to retire from crimes as soon as possible, drinking rum and smoking weed. Poutine is the most celebrated in Canada almost as fast food, that is how fast these guys will put themselves in trouble.

Broad City (Hulu) paired with Talenti’s Roman Rasberry Sorbetto.
Via Hulu Via Talenti
Broad City is the series I can sit down and relate the most. It is about two best friends against NYC, trying to making ends meet while encountering themselves in sticky, bizarre situations. The reason why I relate to this series is mainly that the characters are in their 20’s getting back up from every single challenge life throws at them, at the same time they are continuously following their dreams and goals. Who cannot relate to this? It is a comedy after all so, get ready to get a good laugh with a great scoop of sorbet just in case you feel too related and want to cry.
BoJack Horseman (Netflix) paired with Guacamole and Late July’s Chia & Quinoa Chips.
Via Netflix Via Late July
BoJack Horseman is an animated series about the rise and downs of a 90’s TV star. BoJack had it all including, money, addiction problems, drugs, and alcohol. BoJack represents a common problem viewed lately in our society, depression, anxiety, parenthood, relationships, self-realization, and friendship. It also shows (in an animated version) the toxic life that some Hollywood stars go through. Chips and guac might be a Mexican staple but Californians have adopted this quick snack too. So what is better than celebrating Hollywood’s pop culture with some of their core snacks!
I am no expert making guacamole but, her is my recipe:
- 3 medium Hass avocados cut in chunks
- 1/3 cup of red onion and tomatoes cut in small pieces
- 1 Lime juice
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup of fresh cilantro leaves
- Minced garlic (optional)
Place the avocados in a medium bowl, slightly mash them with a fork, once mashed, add the rest of the ingredients until evenly mixed.
Sex Education (Netflix) paired with Pocky.
Via Netflix Via Pocky
This series is a must-watch! If you never had the sex talk when you were growing up, you could relate to this series. Otis, the main character, is a socially awkward high school student who happens to be the son of a sex therapist. His best friend, who comes out as homosexual, partner up with Maeve, a girl who grew up without a parental figure, and all three create an underground sex therapy clinic on the school campus. Otis goes from being socially awkward to solving the mysteries that all teens wonder at the age, what is sex and, how does it work? Just like sex education, Pocky is something fun and palyful. A stick covered in chocolate, how about that?
Anne with an E (Netflix) paired with, So Delicious’s Coconutmilk Yogurt with, local granola and seasonal fruits.
Via Netflix Via So Delicious
Based on the classic book Anne with an E is the story of a young orphan who is seeking love, acceptance and, a place in the world for people like her. She endures an abusive childhood until a mistake saves her life and changes her journey for good. Her unique, kind, imaginative and sweet spirit was able to transform the way people around her think. If you watch this series, you will be able to see how her character grows into a young woman who also finds love in her best friend. For this one, I chose something you will fall in love with easy to make and healthy. Coconut yogurt is a breeze of fresh air just like Anne’s personality.
How to prepare your yogurt:
- Cut your fresh seasonal fruits into bite-size
- Pour yogurt into a small container
- Top your yogurt with granola (bought locally or your favorite banded granola)
- Add fruits
You can get creative with this one adding agave, honey, chia seeds and, more!
Last but not least!
Dracula (Netflix) paired with a glass of red wine and a cheese platter. Fancy!
Via Dracula Via Damn Delicious
First off, cheese is the only reason why I have not become vegan and, what is better than to pair it with wine? Jumping to my overview of the Dracula by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, originally based on the novel-writing by Bram Stocker. Dracula aired at the beginning of January 2020, this series takes an unexpected turn and goes beyond to our modern world. It is a series that leaves you thinking about the evolution of this creature throughout his unique mind and journey. Cheese platter goes as far as 1865 and wine can only get better with time. Could this be Dracula’s favorite snack too?
You can find ideas on how to prepare a decorative cheese platter clicking the picture above or, you can select cheeses from my favourite takes:
- Cheddar Cheese
- Camembert
- Blue Cheese
- Brie
- Gorgonzola
- Manchego
- Goat Cheese
- Parmigiano Reggiano
I typically drink more dry, red wines so, I would usually drink Malbec, Cabernet or, Chardonnay.
I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I enjoy eating snacks!
